The UK's Daily Mirror: Going Magazine Style?
In a February 1, 2007 article on the MediaGuardian.co.uk website [1], Stephen Brook wrote that Daily Mirror editor Richard Wallace feels like his paper is becoming more and more like a magazine.
Brook quotes Wallace as saying, "We need to get used to the idea that today's newspapers aren't necessarily about 'news'."
Wallace argues that readers are surrounded by "the white noise of news" so that before they buy a newspaper they already know most of the major news of the day. To combat that new reality, Wallace says the Daily Mirror new strives to provide "two key elements: either an exclusive take, or the best analysis on a major event."
